Technical guide · FDM

Materials for functional parts.

Properties, uses and limits of every material Morph3D produces with, so you can choose well before quoting. Four are kept in stock; nine engineering composites with carbon or glass fibre are produced on request, with a minimum volume.

In stock

PLA, PETG, ABS and TPU 95A. Typical reference values.

In stock

PLA

The most precise material with the best finish in FDM — and the least heat-tolerant.

HDT ~55 °C Tensile 40–60 MPa
In stock

PETG

The "workhorse" for production parts: tough, chemical resistant, no shrinkage.

HDT ~70 °C Tensile 40–50 MPa
In stock

ABS

The classic engineering plastic: withstands heat and impact, accepts post-processing.

HDT 85–95 °C Tensile 30–40 MPa
In stock

TPU 95A

Flexible like hard rubber, resistant to abrasion, tearing and oil.

Shore 95A Elongation > 300 %

Engineering: carbon fibre

On request, with a minimum volume. Values from the official Bambu Lab data sheet.

PETG + carbon fibre

PETG-CF

Stiffer than regular PETG, warps little and has a matte finish that hides the layers. The easiest of the family to produce.

HDT 74 °C Tensile XY 35 MPa
ASA + carbon fibre

ASA-CF

ASA with carbon fibre, made for the weather: high resistance to UV and rain, stiffer and more dimensionally stable than ASA.

HDT 110 °C Tensile XY 34 MPa
Nylon 6 + carbon fibre

PA6-CF

Very stiff and strong in dry environments, with good heat and impact resistance.

HDT 186 °C Tensile XY 102 MPa
High-temperature nylon + carbon fibre

PAHT-CF

Better interlayer adhesion, keeps its properties even when wet and is the toughest of the family.

HDT 194 °C Tensile XY 92 MPa
PET + carbon fibre

PET-CF

HDT above 200 °C with very low moisture absorption: stiff and stable in hot, humid environments.

HDT 205 °C Tensile XY 74 MPa
Polyphthalamide + carbon fibre

PPA-CF

The stiffest and strongest on the list: 168 MPa tensile strength and an 11.8 GPa tensile (Young’s) modulus.

HDT 227 °C Tensile XY 168 MPa
Polyphenylene sulfide + carbon fibre

PPS-CF

Top of the list for temperature and chemicals: resists acids, alkalis, solvents and oils, and is self-extinguishing.

HDT 264 °C Tensile XY 87 MPa

Engineering: glass fibre

On request, with a minimum volume. Values from the official Bambu Lab data sheet.

ABS + glass fibre

ABS-GF

Stiffer, more stable and less warping than regular ABS. Matte finish with vivid colours.

HDT 99 °C Tensile XY 36 MPa
Nylon 6 + glass fibre

PA6-GF

Engineering-nylon heat resistance at a lower cost than the carbon-fibre versions.

HDT 182 °C Tensile XY 75 MPa
Shortcut

Which material for which part.

Start with the requirement that rules the part. If none of them applies, PETG or ABS probably solve it, and the part comes out cheaper and faster.
