PPA-CF

Polyphthalamide + carbon fibre

Polyphthalamide with carbon fibre, an industrial-grade nylon. The stiffest and strongest on the list: 168 MPa tensile strength and an 11.8 GPa tensile (Young’s) modulus.

Material PPA-CF HDT 227 °C

Example part drawn layer by layer. The colour is illustrative and is not a material property.

Suited for

  • Replacing light metal parts
  • Automotive components
  • High-load mechanical prototypes

Watch out for

  • Low elongation (3.2 %): little tolerance for deformation
  • Drying at 100–140 °C before printing: factor it into the lead time

Chemistry

Better than common nylon: resists weak acids and alkalis and most solvents, oils and greases.

Mandatory dryingAll are oven-dried before printing and stored below 20 % RH. Nylons lose properties if printed wet.
Closed, heated chamberHigh-temperature materials, such as PPA-CF and PPS-CF, are produced in a heated chamber, as the data sheet requires.

How to order a material on request

  1. Send the file and describe the useLoad and load direction, working temperature, environment (oil, chemicals, sun, humidity).
  2. We confirm the material and minimum volumeThese materials are not kept in stock: we buy the lot for your order. The minimum volume depends on the material and the size of the part.
  3. Lead time includes purchasing and drying the materialAdd the filament restocking to the normal production lead time of 24 h to 96 h.

Also on request: unfilled ASA (outdoor use, without the extra stiffness of carbon) and TPU in 85A and 98A hardnesses.

Frequently asked questions

What people usually ask about PPA-CF.

Still have a question? Message us on WhatsApp

How heat-resistant is PPA-CF?
HDT is 227 °C at 0.45 MPa and 196 °C at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75), measured on specimens with 100 % infill, according to the official Bambu Lab data sheet. It is a reference value for comparing materials: the real part varies with orientation, infill and wall thickness.
Is PPA-CF kept in stock?
No. It is an engineering material on request: we buy the lot for your order, and the minimum volume depends on the material and the size of the part. The lead time includes purchasing and drying the material, added to the normal production lead time of 24 h to 96 h.
How is PPA-CF printed?
Only with a hardened nozzle: carbon and glass fibres wear down a brass nozzle. The process is nozzle at 280–310 °C, bed at 100–120 °C and chamber at 50–80 °C. The filament is oven-dried (100–140 °C · 8–12 h) before printing and stored below 20 % RH. Being a high-temperature material, it is produced in a heated chamber, as the data sheet requires.
What are the limits of PPA-CF?
Low elongation (3.2 %): little tolerance for deformation. Drying at 100–140 °C before printing: factor it into the lead time.
Are the PPA-CF values guaranteed?
No. Real parts vary with orientation, infill, wall thickness and material condition, and the values are not guaranteed or certified. For critical applications (safety, structural load, food contact or medical use), validate the part in your application before series production.
